M. Keachie's Palace Stables
Built in 1882, the Palace Stables were located at approximately 265 Smith Street. The stable and livery was opened by Morton Keachie, who sought to capitalize upon the business that Winnipeg attracted at the turn of the century. Morton's stables were only two blocks away from the major thoroughfare of Portage Avenue, and had 100 boarding stalls and various livery services.
The Palace Stables serviced the city until 1910, but only a few years after its creation, it had troubles adapting to the changing needs of Winnipeg, a city now dominated by streetcars and automobiles.
