Behind the Scenes at Seven Oaks House
Curatorial Video Tours

In March of 2021, former Curator Eric Strong took audiences behind the scenes to explore the collections at Seven Oaks House Museum as part of the the 'Safe at Home Museum' series. Each segment highlights a different part of our collection, and of our province's rich heritage.

Episode 1:
Family Heirlooms

In this segment we introduce the Inkster family, visit some of their cherished heirlooms, and share one of the oldest dog-stories in Manitoba.

Episode 2:
Historical Clothing

In this segment we raid the closets of Seven Oaks House, pulling out some of the oldest and most interesting pieces in our collection. You'll learn about Manitoba's fascinating fashion history -- from Victorian finery to Voyageur gear.

Episode 3:
Textiles

In this segment we'll get up close with a 200 year-old quilt and a ceinture fléchée (voyageur sash) that took hundreds of hours to weave by hand.

Episode 4:

Indigenous Craft

In this segment we showcase the beauty of Red River's Indigenous craft traditions. We'll visit delicate caribou hide embroidery, stunning quillwork and remarkable beaded pillows with a hidden story.

In our live broadcasts, we also visited the Manitoba Crafts Museum & Library. Each week we were joined by an expert who shared practical tips to help you care for your own family heirlooms.
