Wright Family photo album - Introduction

The Wright family farmed the land where Kildonan Golf Course is now located in the late 1800s. Our records say that the family traveled to Winnipeg from Trois Rivieres, Quebec -- but the photos in this album show that their roots were in the area of London, England.

This album may have been owned by Arthur L. Wright and Mary Ruffles.

Their son, Arthur E. Wright (1907-1977), became a well known local politician. He served as Mayor of the City of West Kildonan from 1954 - 1958. From 1959 - 1966 he was elected to the Manitoba legislature as MLA for the Seven Oaks riding. The nearby Arthur E Wright Community School was named in his honour.

Seven Oaks House Museum was restored and opened to the public under Mayor Wright's administration. He was also a member of the West Kildonan Kiwanis Club, who assisted with the museum's opening.

This album was donated to the museum in 1961 along with a variety of household items from the Wright farm by Harvey Thompson. We don't know what his connection to them was.
